Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb Ground Beef (or substitute with ground turkey or tofu for a vegetarian twist)
- 3 cloves Garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp Fresh Ginger, grated
- ¼ cup Soy Sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
- 2 tbsp Brown Sugar (or honey/maple syrup)
- 1 tbsp Sesame Oil
- ½ tsp Red Pepper Flakes (adjust for spice preference)
- 2 cups Cooked Rice (white or brown, your choice)
- Garnish: Sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds
Instructions
- Prepare Ingredients:
- Mince garlic, grate ginger, and slice green onions.
- Cook the Rice:
- Boil water in a pot. Add 2 cups of rice, lower the heat, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until soft.
- Brown the Beef:
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef. Break it apart and cook until it’s browned.
- Add Flavors:
- Stir in the minced garlic, grated ginger, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. Let it simmer for another 5 minutes so that the flavors meld.
- Assemble the Bowl:
- Place a generous serving of rice in each bowl, top with the beef mixture, and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.
Notes
- Fresh Ingredients: Use freshly minced garlic and freshly grated ginger to get the most vibrant flavor and aroma.
- Even Cooking: Break the beef into small pieces while cooking to ensure a uniform brown and avoid steaming.
- Balanced Flavors: Taste as you cook and adjust the soy sauce, brown sugar, and red pepper flakes to achieve a perfect balance of savory, sweet, and spicy.
